I have mentioned educationalist Jessica Blokker before, in connection with her training of the teachers at the Home of Hope Special School. Jessica has now extended her work to training and supporting the matrons: the women who run the dorms day to day, where the girls and boys live together in groups of about ten and form a family. The matrons take care of upbringing and daily care. It is a heavy task, now that the children who arrive at Home of Hope carry increasingly difficult problems with them. Some are severely traumatised. The matrons have to deal with children who are not used to a family situation and who express their frustrations in all kinds of ways. On top of that, COVID meant that everyone at Home of Hope spent a year and a half in quarantine, and that too sometimes causes stress. Jessica supports the matrons with her online training, where they can bring all their questions and experiences. Thank you, Jessica!
