Green fingers

Home of Hope is making great strides in farming. Alongside coconuts, mangoes and passion fruit, Alfy would like to grow more vegetables. Financially this is a good move, because food prices in Sri Lanka are rising sharply because of inflation following corona. Until now it was difficult to grow the more vulnerable vegetables (beans, aubergine, peppers), but that is changing: we have been given a large greenhouse by a Dutch sponsor. The greenhouse comes from India and is made of materials people in Sri Lanka are used to. So there are no problems with putting it up or maintaining it. The greenhouse is being set up at the moment and will be put to use straight away. Now there can be four harvests a year! The vegetables that are not needed for our own use can be sold at the local market, which creates a new source of income. The children are happy about the greenhouse and are helping enthusiastically with putting it up!
