On December10, 2018, Sharmini addressed a UN- Asia delegation in Colombo. She spoke as a representative of all caregivers of displaced children in Sri Lanka. In her speech, Sarmini emphasized the great importance of guiding children until they are able to stand on their own feet and take care of themselves. She sees this as an investment for the future. In addition to raising young children, it’s very important to help young adults find their place in society. Sharmini is a member of a government advisory body for setting up laws and policies for children’s homes. With many years of experience in taking care of such children, it’s very important that Sharmini’s voice is being heard.
